OUR STORY
Meet Our Leaders: Pastor Greg & Tonya Sawyer
​
In January 2025, Greg and Tonya Sawyer stepped into leadership at Common Ground, bringing over 30 years of ministry experience. Greg’s passion for church planting, revitalization and outreach, paired with Tonya’s gifts in worship and teaching, create a Spirit-led environment focused on helping people grow in their walk with Christ.

Originally planning to start a new church in Eagleville, they soon sensed God leading them to breathe new life into an established congregation. After immersing themselves in the community, they embraced the call to lead Eagleville Baptist Church into a new chapter.

A New Name for a New Season
Inspired by 1 Corinthians 9:22, our church became Common Ground @ EBC—a name reflecting both our heritage and mission. Like Jesus, we meet people where they are, walking with them toward a full and meaningful life. We’re a church rooted in real relationships, grounded in timeless truth, and reaching a changing world with hope and purpose.
HISTORY
185 Years of Faithful Impact

Since 1839, our church—founded as Harpeth Church and later renamed Eagleville Baptist—has been a gospel-centered presence in Eagleville. From humble beginnings by the Harpeth River to building a lasting home in the heart of town, each generation has faithfully adapted to meet the needs of the community while staying rooted in biblical truth.

Through expansion, revival, rebuilding, and leadership transitions, the mission has remained clear: to proclaim Christ with real faith, real relationships, and real hope.

Now, as Common Ground, we honor that legacy and move forward with confidence in the unchanging Christ—yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
